Cookies & Skulls

I am not adept at cooking. Baking, however, I can do a little better. I just have a lot more fun with baking cookies and cakes than cooking dinner. Spilling flour everywhere is fun - until you have to clean it up as the dog tries to eat it.

I haven't baked a batch of cookies from "scratch" in the longest time. I had recently finished watching Friends on Netflix (again) and thought about making chocolate cookies. Obviously, I had to use Phoebe's grandmother's recipe (which is the Nestle Tollhouse recipe). It really is fabulous.

The weather had just started turning cold and I had received some of my Modcloth Halloween items. This cardigan is the bomb. I love the classic fairisle pattern mixed with the skulls. It's pretty and unexpected. Perfect for a day at home making cookies or running around at haunted houses.

What is your favorite dessert to bake?

Target Sweater Weather

I stopped in to my local Target and the first display I see is of a beautiful plaid coat. I was prepared to walk away, but right next to that display was a rack of sweaters. Now that the weather is starting to cooperate, I have starting bringing out my sweaters and realizing I need some new colors. Target had what I needed and wanted! I walked out of the store with four sweaters. It's lucky I was on a mission or I would have probably walked out with more than just sweaters. Target's fall items are on point. I highly recommend checking them out!

Working Classics

Lately, I have been trying to purchase staple closet items. Those items that can and should last forever. Those items that go with everything. Basics. I'm trying to fill my wardrobe with more basics.

I have never been that in to trends, but I love prints. My problem, however, is I buy prints in my tops and bottoms without truly considering if I will be able to create outfits with those pieces. What has happened is I have a lot of fabulous printed tops that don't go with any of my amazingly printed bottoms.

I looked to Instagram for inspiration. Daphne, from Mode and the City, does classic style so well (and probably the best). I saw this photo on her Instagram and knew I had to recreate it with pieces from my closet. This is the perfect work outfit. A black pencil skirt with a white button up and a sweater? Yes, please! The ruffled collar and the scarf on the bag brings more fun to the outfit. If only I had a striped trench!

Orchard Lunch

When the weather starts to cool, I love lunching at the orchard near work, Tuttle Orchards. The food is delicious and locally sourced. I drank my first apple cider and ate my first caramel apple of the season! I can't wait to go back to pick apples, pumpkins, and find my way through the cornfield maze.

Stripes Crossing

I popped over to Broad Ripple area to visit my friend, Charlotte, last weekend. I'm really only familiar with the main drag, but I am loving what's off the path! We had a late lunch at La Piedad, an adorable Mexican restaurant off Coil St. In view from the patio seating area is the Monon Trail and what looks like a locomotor cabin. I believe a realty company owns it, but they have it set up as a little seating area! It was the neatest thing. We didn't end up going in, but this little coffee shop, Perk Up, seems to be the perfect place to get your morning coffee. I can't wait to explore this area!
