Fall Uniform

Sweater: Forever 21 (similar here), Shirt: J. Crew (similar here), Skirt: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Shoes: Aldo (similar here), Bracelets: Tiffany and Co. and Forever 21 (similar here), Sunglasses: J. Crew Factory (similar here)

Give me a skirt, a button down shirt, and a sweater and I am the happiest girl ever. For the rest of the fall season and well into winter (just add a pair of tights) this uniform is all you will likely see me wear. It provides comfort and endless opportunities for work and play. I cannot get enough.

Plaids and Pups

Shirt: J. Crew Factory, Shorts: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Shoes: Kohl's (similar here), Watch: Timex c/o (similar here), Belt: Aeropostale (similar here), Bracelet: Tiffany and Co., Dog collars and leashes: Meijer

Summer is technically at an end. Indiana, however, has other ideas. This week has been blissfully crisp, but as usual next week will be back in the high 70's and low 80's. As much as I want to stow away my summer pieces, I just cannot. Thank goodness for summer plaids and pups

Checks and the Country

Dress: Vineyard Vines, Shoes: Aldo (similar here), Watch: Gift, Bracelets: Forever 21 (similar here) and Tiffany & Co., Necklace: Forever 21 (similar here)

Doug (the soon to be hubs) recently took a trip to Boston. I took a trip to my couch. While he was away, he made a stop at a mall while he was waiting for his flight. That mall had a Vineyard Vines shop. And I now own this beautiful gingham dress

Indiana is generally still quite warm during September and even in October. While I want to layer and be dressed for fall, it is sometimes not viable. This dress is light enough so I'm not sweating, but perfect for layering once cooler weather rolls in over the cornfields. It also helps that it has sleeves. I couldn't have been happier to receive this as a present (even if I told him to buy it for me)!

Steal Her Style: Kerry Washington

StyleWatch magazine is really the only magazine I look forward to reading each month. It does a fantastic job of mixing high and low end fashion while using "real" people, models, and celebrities. The magazine is basically an ode to bloggers now and I just find it refreshing.

My favorite section is the "Steal Her Style" portion. Who doesn't want to emulate their favorite celebrities? The only problem is generally your favorite celebrity is wearing only one piece that costs about as much as one month's rent. One piece. StyleWatch does a really great job in finding outfits that are crazy similar for a better price. Now, the problem that I have with this situation is the "real-people pricing" is still out of my budget. I just can't spend $300 on one outfit.

And here is where I jump in to the equation! I really enjoy finding you (and myself) lookalike outfits for even less! I am loving Kerry Washington's ladylike florals and moto jacket. Mixing a daintier piece with something just a bit tougher is one of my favorites. Check out the pieces I have found below! Even with the most expensive dress you will only pay around $123 total! Now, I didn't find earrings or a lip color, but my guess is you already have something perfect at home.

Also, I am actually really feeling that last Target dress. It just really pops! The colors are great for fall, but once spring and summer roll back around it won't be too heavy to wear. I think this might just slip into my wardrobe. I've also never really considered buying an orange colored bag, but my goodness this laser cut version is just adorable. Doing this section really gets me into trouble sometimes all the time.

Forever 21: $32.90
P.S. The faux fur collar is removable! Score.

Target: $22.99

Target: $29.99

Target: $27.99

Forever 21: $19.90

Payless: $29.99

Kohl's: $29.40

Polka Dots Forever

Dress: Forever 21 (about 4-5 years old) (similar here), Belt: Forever 21 (similar here), Shoes: Aldo (similar here), Sunglasses: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Necklace: gift from my grandmother

When I wore this dress to work, I laughingly told my manager that I had considered getting rid of this dress many times. In fact, it's ended up in the "to donate" pile more than once, but something keeps me pulling it back out. She looked shocked and said this dress is probably one of the most classic pieces and perfect for fall. I do not disagree. I tend to be sentimental about some things and clothes can definitely fall into that category. There are times when I find it especially hard to part with a piece because it reminds me of a perfect memory. Nothing special happened in this dress. And (sorry, but it's true) it being a Forever 21 dress, I really didn't expect it to live this long. I take great care of my clothes and that's how they last for so long. I do regular purges of my closet and sometimes I get rid of things because I've had them for too long. That's why this dress keeps going in to the goodbye pile. After hearing her talk about the dress like it was something to be cherished, I will most likely keep a hold of it until it truly falls apart. Sometimes, even when it's a cheap find that was for nothing special, you should hold on to things because they'll never go out of style. So, the next time you're thinking about getting rid of a piece and it's pulling you back in, maybe think twice about why you should or should not purge it.

Advice to keep your pieces nice:

1. Always wash on the gentle/hand wash cycle or physically hand wash. Always hang/air dry.
2. Stop throwing everything into the laundry because you wore it. Give it a good 2-3 (sometimes) 4 wears before washing. Unless you shower only once a month you aren't that dirty.
3. Hang or fold everything back into its place once you've worn or washed it. Clothes lying all over the floor are trip hazards and perfect for little dog/cat claws to rip.
4. Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't wear your favorite sweater with the loose knit if you're going to be around things that could snag it easily.
5. Just have fun and try to not get too attached.
