On My Mind: Wedding Week

Lela London is in town.

I should really title this post "Lela London Week". I am not going to apologize, but she is in town for one week and I am going to make the most of it. Her plane landed Friday evening and we have been on the go ever since. From getting songs nailed down for the wedding to going to my cousin's birthday party, we have had the best time. Lela even had her first Zumba experience and she rocked it. I'm so happy to have her here and I am not going to waste one minute (or photo opportunity).

This past Saturday I had my (low key) bachelorette party. I am closer to thirty than twenty and all I want to do is watch Netflix and read. I compromised and we decided to do a wine tour through downtown Indy and ending with a lovely dinner at Mesh. Even though we only made it to two places before dinner (Black Market and Tastings), it was a blast. I have a close group of friends and it was just perfect. I really have the best lady crew

Apple and Pumpkin Picking

This fall season has just flown by and I feel like it's about to come to an end. While I have been to an apple orchard (multiple times), I haven't actually picked any apples or pumpkins. I am planning to carve some jack-o-lanterns for the wedding and Lela mentioned she had NEVER been to an orchard. I knew this was one activity we HAD to do. We had a ton of fun picking the apples and taking too many photos (blog soon to come). We didn't have time to pick our pumpkins from the patch, but they had some really lovely ones up front. If you're in the area, head to Pleasant View Orchards - there are still plenty of apples in the trees!

Wedding Week

I am getting married this Saturday. It all feels a bit surreal. Doug and I have been together for nearly eleven years now. I honestly cannot wait. The decor, clothing, and food are perfect and it's going to be so fun. I love getting together with family and friends to celebrate. There are still a few things left to do, but nothing to stress over. Someone mentioned I was the calmest bride they have ever seen. How am I doing it? Well, I have a great wedding planner and I have just decided not to stress. What will happen will happen and I'll just roll with the punches. Live in Indiana or getting married in Indiana? You must check out the Righteous Oaks Historic Ballroom. It's adorable and affordable

Harry Potter Makeup Brushes

I'm not that into makeup, but I am that into Harry Potter. I don't know if I can justify paying $55 for a set of makeup brushes, but these are fantastic. The set of five includes the wands of Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, and Voldemort. You can preorder now and they are expected to ship December 10th. Are you going to pick up a set? A Very Plaid Day

Blazer: Target, Sweater: J. Crew Factory, Shirt: Le Tote (similar here), Skirt: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Shoes: Modcloth (similar here)

Besides sweaters, I think blazers are my second favorite clothing item to wear in the fall. Layering a blazer over a sweater is probably the actual best. Sometimes I even use my blazers as jackets (to keep warm). It's a sure way to look crisp and clean for anything. I am especially loving the printed blazers that are out this season. As I had mentioned in a previous post, the plaid/houndstooth blazers are taking the world by storm. This Target version is amazing and definitely worth the $35.

Tweeding in the Rain

Jacket: Aeropostale, Shirt: Target (similar here), Sweater: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Skirt: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Rain Boots: Target, Necklace: Forever 21 (similar here), Umbrella: Target (similar here)

I have been looking for a great anorak type jacket and keep coming up short (in money). So, happening upon this Aeropostale jacket was so fantastic. It is exactly what I was looking for in a fall jacket down to the plaid lining on the inside. It is great for layering. Jackets can be tricky sometimes and can be too light weight or too bulky. This jacket is a happy medium between the two - you won't sweat while running errands and you won't be freezing walking to your car. The downside: it's not water proof

J. Crew Factory Blues

Cardigan: J. Crew Factory (same style, but not the same color here), Shirt: J. Crew Factory, Skirt: J. Crew Factory (similar here), Shoes: Payless (similar here), Watch: Timex (similar here), Sunglasses: J. Crew Factory (similar here)

This happens more often than naught: I am about to post a photo of my outfit on Instagram and I am tagging the brands I'm wearing and whoops, I'm wearing everything from the same brand. There is nothing wrong with wearing all one brand, but I really try to diversify. Wearing an eclectic mix of brands shows how you can branch out to multiple stores while still keeping true to your style. And it keeps costs down if you ask me. However, J. Crew Factory is my weakness. I won't apologize. I also cannot stay away from navy right now.

Victoria Beckham X Target

Follow @targetstyle for updates
Target just announced this morning that they will be collaborating with the one and only Victoria Beckham. Please excuse me while I squee away in a corner

The Target collaborations are nothing but amazing and this one, I'm sure, will not disappoint. There are currently no images out of the collection, but as we well know they will start showing up shortly. Target is describing the collection to be a reflection of her Victoria, Victoria Beckham line. Victoria says the VVB collection is "a range that reflects what I think of as the more “playful" side of my own style. The collections within VVB are fun and full of character, but always stay true to the refined brand spirit. The line of women’s and childrenswear that I have created with Target perfectly encapsulates the spirit of VVB and features some of the earlier silhouettes that the category originally became known for." You can read more from her interview here

The line will have more than 200 pieces for women and children. Prices are perfectly reasonable from $6-$70. The collection goes live April 9, 2017. You know where I'll be that Sunday morning.

On My Mind

This movie is awesome. Mascots is about a group of people who moonlight as sports mascots and their journey to the World Mascot Association Championship. The film is shot documentary style and is seriously star studded. I think people were imagining this to be quite the comedy. It is funny, but not hilarious. Since it views more as a documentary it is more interesting and worth some chuckles. I would definitely give it a watch!

Chicken Noodle Casserole

I was sick for most of the beginning of this week. While I love chicken noodle soup, I can only have so much. When I saw this recipe for a chicken noodle casserole dish I knew I would have to try it. The recipe is simple and doesn't require a lot of effort (which is beautiful and much needed when you're feeling ill). Definitely a must try!

Lela London will be here in 2 days!

One of my best friends, one of my bridesmaids is arriving in Indy Friday evening. I can barely contain my excitement. We became friends basically just as she was leaving to start her life in London. With occasional visits, lots of Skype dates, and plenty of WhatsApp conversations we have continued to confide and trust in each other. I would never have thought I could be so close to someone who was so far away. Xoxo

Don't forget to check out her blog!

J. Crew Factory Sweater Sale

I love a good sale and I love J. Crew Factory. So, of course, when the email pops up that their 40% to 60% off sweater sale ends tomorrow, I jumped to nab a few favorites. I have so many sweaters, I hardly need more, but I really want to try the Merino Turtlenecks. I have a few turtleneck sweaters that are super thick and I have some tissue turtlenecks that are super thin. The Merino option should be just perfect. Pick up your favorites before the weather turns cold (if it ever turns cold)!

Freeform's 13 Nights of Halloween

Freeform's annual 13 Nights of Halloween starts tonight! You can find the lineup here. Tonight kicks off with The Nightmare Before Christmas and includes Hocus Pocus. You'll know where to find me until Halloween

Saturday Chambray

Shirt: J. Crew (in navy), Skirt: J. Crew Factory, Cardigan: J. Crew (similar here), Shoes: 6PM (similar here), Watch: Timex (similar here), Belt: Forever 21 (similar here)

Working on Saturdays can be tricky. I need to still look professional, but I also don't want to be overly "business" because people coming in to see me are definitely more casual. Toeing the line between business and casual can be difficult, but Saturdays are the day to do it. Generally, I keep one or two pieces more casual than the rest. One of the best items to switch are the shoes. Wearing flats instead of heels can really down play an outfit. With this particular outfit my skirt is a bit more fun than business. The chambray gives it a good Saturday outfit vibe, but with the nice top and layered cardigan (along with the patent heels) it really pops

Fall Texture

Shirt: Aeropostale (similar here), Skirt: Forever 21 (similar here, here, and here), Shoes: DSW - Coach shoes are in store (similar here), Bracelet: Tiffany and Co., Flowers: Marsh Supermarkets

Fall style is all about texture. I feel as if I don't get enough texture during the summer months. Summer is all about breathable cotton and fabrics. Once the weather starts turning though, textures come out to play. It's still warm enough to keep off layers (at least during the afternoon). This outfit with the chambray button down and the faux leather skirt is great because you're not going to get overheated, but it doesn't look like you're still wearing your summer pieces. While I would consider this outfit more off duty than on duty, the pieces could be paired with more business like pieces to create a more work appropriate outfit.
