Target Stripes

Shirt dresses are just the simplest items. When I am having a rough morning and just cannot decide what to wear, I always reach for a dress. Dresses in and of themselves are perfect because you get your top and bottom without trying too hard. A shirt dress takes it up a notch because it adds a bit of flare. Even the most basic shirt dress (i.e. one color) feels fantastic on its own. The stripes on this dress speak for themselves and instantly add a business casual vibe. I added the pop of color in the green shoes. We all know navy is a neutral.

Palm Print

Can you tell I'm obsessed with my Fitbit?

Sometimes work wear can be boring. A fun print can really turn an otherwise "meh" outfit into a "wow" outfit. This shift dress is so pleasant and summery, it almost makes me feel as if I am somewhere beach-y. Shift dresses are perfect for work anyway, but it keeps things interesting when you have a conversation print. It is also a perfect day to night piece.

Give Me That Cold Shoulder

Trendy is not how I would describe my wardrobe. I love watching for new trends and seeing everyone work each trend to their personality, but trendy items just don't usually appeal to me personally.

The cold shoulder has been around for quite some time; however, I see it everywhere now. It's not something I found myself drawn to until I saw this top on Le Tote. The blue and white stripes, ruffles, and short sleeves make it classic. Cutting out the shoulder makes it interesting. I had a lot of fun wearing this piece and it would be perfect for the summer. Though, it's not great on windy days.

The Bees Knees

I was totally late getting my VBxTarget pieces. My plans to wake up early that beautiful Sunday did not happen. I actually forgot it was happening until I started seeing everyone posting their try-ons and hauls. I was not actually able to get to a Target until Monday evening. I was 100% certain everything would be picked over and I wouldn't be able to get a single item. Definitely not the case! I picked out quite a few pieces for myself and my little love Elora (#elorajune on Instagram). This bee print blouse might be my favorite piece. It is a little large on me (especially in regards to sleeve length), but otherwise it is perfect. I feel like it also helps spread the "Save the Bees" message.

Monday Musings

Ladies and gentlemen, Lela is coming to Indy! Actually, she has been in Florida for a couple of weeks now, but she will be joining me in Indiana on April 27th. I am over the moon excited. The last time we saw each other was during October for my wedding. It was a fabulous visit, but obviously a bit drowned out by my pending nuptials. With no weddings in our way, we will be able to really focus on creating memories.

Check back on here and on our Instagram pages (me and Lela) for our wanderings! Check out Lela's blog here for beautiful style, travel, and food reviews.

Everyone knows I adore pineapple print, but how cute is this banana print skirt? It's only $11 at! It would make the perfect summer statement piece. I may have to think about adding this to my wardrobe. They also have other great banana pieces in stock.

Doug and I just planted some bushes and flowers around our backyard patio this weekend. I am so happy things are finally starting to come together. Now we just need chairs and a table so we can sit out there and enjoy the new plants. We went to Home Depot to gather what we needed and I found these adorable pineapple solar lights! Aren't they the cutest?! I just think they are the perfect touch for Camp Pineapple's patio.

I adore Anne Hathway and think she's a fabulous actress. Her singing chops are rather impressive as well. I do think Anne does well in serious roles, but I truly love her as a comedienne. This little spot with James Corden about the premises of a romantic comedy is hilarious and quite truthful with all my favorite songs involved. Give it a watch!

I have been in a reading rut lately and there is really only one tried and true way I know to dig myself out: read small, exciting books. I have only read a couple of the Doctor Who books, but enjoyed them immensely. I ordered a couple of off Amazon (Deep Time, The Crawling Terror, and I Am A Dalek) to try to jump start my reading. It worked fantastically. I even ordered two more books (Silhouette and Shroud of Sorrow) because I'm having so much fun reading these. If you're a fan of the Doctor Who series - definitely get into the books.

More Pineapple, Please

Wearing t-shirts to work is the best! It's awfully easy to deem pieces in your wardrobe as not work appropriate. I'm here to tell you it's all in how you wear those pieces that make it work appropriate or not. A t-shirt is generally not something you want to throw on as you head to the office. A t-shirt with a fun skirt and blazer, however, makes perfect office attire. I also added a collared shirt underneath to really drive home that this was in fact work wear. What pieces are you not wearing enough because you don't think you can wear them to work? Rethink pieces and create new outfits - shop your own closet.

Blue Blazers

I am always on the look out for a great blazer. While vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, I picked up this amazing GAP Factory blazer. I have actually never purchased a GAP Factory blazer before and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it fit. The big thing for me is sleeve length. I was able to nab a size 0 in this navy option and a blue and white stripe option. I can wear both with the sleeves unrolled, but I do like a rolled sleeve look. With the rain boots, this look felt a bit low key for work. Throwing the blazer on just added that extra touch of polish.

At the end of every month, one of things I love to do is research the "made up" holidays for the next month. There are so many and they are so much fun to celebrate. National Siblings Day. National Grilled Cheese Day. National Pet Day. National Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. The list goes on and on and on. I was over the moon when J. Crew announced their National Stripes Day. I love a good print, but stripes are probably one of the most versatile. You can wear stripes to work, to the beach, and to a gala.

I bought this J. Crew Factory dress while I was in Gatlinburg and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. The fabric is so soft I was kind of regretting wearing a long sleeve shirt underneath. I had been wanting a striped t-shirt dress for awhile now. I wish I had bought the navy and white stripes option as well!

Monday Musings

1. Divas Riff Off with Demi Lovato: James Corden claims that the divas of bygone years are better than today's divas. While I am definitely a bigger fan of music from before I was born, I loved the riff off. Demi Lovato has a great voice and she knows how to bring it.

2. Pineapple blouse: J. Crew always has great pineapple printed pieces. This shirt from J. Crew Factory is adorable! It will be great to wear with jeans or a blazer and pencil skirt. Can't wait to add it to my collection. J. Crew Factory is also still having their amazing 50% off sale! Check it out now!

3. Open Letter to United Airlines: I'm not about to get into what happened on that United Airlines flight, but obviously it wasn't great. This open letter by Justin Bariso is amazingly penned and I think we can all use the advice. When things in your life aren't going all that well, use them as a jumping point for greatness. Take the negative and turn it into a positive.

4. Fitbit: I am "fit-ish" - semi-fit; kind of fit; someone who likes the idea of being fit, but equally likes food. I have a work out shirt with the definition (and I adore it). I never thought a Fitbit was the right thing for me. My friends have them and I see people with them, but I always thought it was bulky and would never work for my style. I was wrong! I recently purchased the Fitbit Charge 2 and it has made a huge difference. I bought two watch-like bands for it (black and cognac coloring) and it just looks like a watch. I am noticing so much more about myself and my health. My husband even bought one after noticing what a difference mine has made! If you're on the fence about buying one - I say go for it.

Beauty and the Sleeves

I adore J. Crew. When I opened the Spring style guide and spotted this beautiful top I just knew I had to have it. Wondering around the mall one day, I stopped into a J. Crew and bought it! Bell sleeves are very in this season and I was shocked to find myself totally loving them. I don't know what it is about bell sleeves, but they just give the right look to any outfit. The bell sleeve gives a girly touch without being too obvious. Besides the sleeves, the buttons running down the back might be my favorite. It's the little details. It was also a perfect top for wandering around The Village in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
