Scarf, Scallops, and Summer

The best part about summer is gathering with family and friends for some outdoor fun. Cook outs, corn hole, can jam, and bonfires. Drinking wine from red solo cups and dancing around a speaker in the backyard.

I'm still obsessed with the neck scarf.

A Little Fringe

Another awards dinner, another Rent the Runway dress. For this particular dinner, I actually hadn't planned on renting, but the dress I bought was too small and I needed something else! I rented the dress about a week in advance.

If I was out shopping this dress most likely wouldn't have caught my eye. It's a bit tribal. The fringe and silhouette sold me. I tend to be wary with sleeveless dresses like this one. I have a thing about my arms (it's always something). The arm cutouts on this dress, though, go up and in a bit - making it very flattering. There is no stretch, but it isn't so tight (with the proper size). I ate a lot of food and didn't even feel strained. For reference, I ordered a size 2 and 4 - the 2 fit perfectly.

Monday Musings

It feels like I have been running and running for awhile now. I was promoted at work and have been adjusting to my new position! It's been a bit of a whirlwind experience, but things are starting to fall back in to place.

Doctor Who: You guys! We have a new Doctor and it's a woman! Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor. This makes me incredibly happy not only because she's a woman, but because Jodie is a great actress (Broadchurch). I'm excited to see where she takes her Doctor. A lot of people are unhappy (hello sexism), but woman or man, everyone is sad to see the previous Doctor go. You will be missed Capaldi. Welcome, Jodie!

Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Christmas has come early! Universal will deck their Harry Potter halls and celebrate Christmas for the holiday season. You can check everything out here. Seasonal festivities, decorations, and treats will abound. I must make a trip back! It looks too beautiful to miss.

Potterfest: This is a bit Harry Potter heavy. What can I say? I'm obsessed. Books and Brews is having their first Harry Potterfest, August 4th. I am so excited! I even bought a pair of Spectrespecs to finish off my Ravenclaw outfit.

Children's Museum: I visited the Indianapolis Children's Museum this week. It was the best! A blog will follow. If you're in town I would highly recommend. The best exhibits were the Circus and American Pop. The museum is perfect for adults and children. Not only will you have a ton of fun, you will probably leave with having learned something.

New trailers: The second seasons of Stranger Things and Riverdale have both been teased. If you haven't watched either of these series, you need to get on it. Both are very binge worthy. Stranger Things Season 2 premiers October 27th - right in time for Halloween. You can catch the premier episode of Riverdale Season 2 on the CW October 11th at 8 pm.

(Re)Work Your Tee Shirt

I love an unexpected twist on a classic outfit. This outfit was actually inspired by this Sarah Vickers look. I like to add a casual aspect to my Saturday work outfits. This striped tee shirt was the perfect option. Pairing a tee shirt with a pencil skirt always makes a unique outfit. Be careful, though, when adding a tee shirt into your work outfit. You don't want to appear as if you just rolled out of bed. Keeping your accessories on the business side will keep you on the correct side of the line.

Must Try: Neck Scarf

I bought this neck scarf at Loft on a whim. It caught my eye while I was in line (applause for you line keepers, you got me) and figured I would try it out. I have seen a few of my favorite bloggers wear them (mainly Daphné from Mode and the City) and find it a very fun accessory.

I don't know if I did it correctly, but I love how it turned out! I just want to wear it every day. I felt so chic even with the simplest outfit. The neck scarf is definitely an unexpected surprise of an accessory and I highly recommend you give it a try!

Colors of July

This outfit post might be completely useless now, but I love my Independence Day outfits too much not to share. July, however, is a good month to wear all your red, white, and blues.

How adorable is my grandma in her anchor shorts?!

These fireworks were actually a week after the Fourth.

Take out the flags and these outfits could have just been any outfit of the day. My main color palette involves navy and white with some pops of color, so nothing to see here.

I just love these skirts from J. Crew Factory (another option). While they won't fly in the office, they are perfect for play. They actually fit like a true mini on my five foot frame! And, hello, pockets. The scalloped cami is also a summer favorite. I have been trying to find tops that will take through summer and into fall. This is a perfect piece to keep you cool and it is super flattering because of the racer back straps. I should purchase every color.

Small Town Style

I work and live in small towns. Not the same ones funnily enough. After touring Indy like a tourist, I wanted to do the same in the town I spend most of my time. McCordsville, Indiana is tiny, but is located next to the slightly larger Fortville. Fortville has a main drag (Main St. if you will) with adorable eateries and shops with that charming small town vibe.

I stopped in to Foxgardin, a delicious restaurant and bar, and had the time of my life. The restaurant itself is small, but full of life. I made the mistake of not reserving a space ahead (make sure you do, especially if you want a patio seat), so I ate in the "Whiskey Lounge". The Whiskey Lounge is very prohibition. Two windows that are covered by the alcohol or heavy curtains. I ordered a burger and was delightfully surprised. Covered in cheese and cooked to perfection, I want this burger every day. The staff are polite, friendly, and are there to make sure you have a great time.

After dinner, I thought I could handle an ice cream. I always love a good wander around Indulge. That is one scoop! The interior is always decorated to perfection. If you're in the area during the day, you can also get lunch here! Their holiday decorations are probably my favorite though.
